Here's another artist who has sprung to prominence via the Jesus Culture Music stable, although it's more than a decade since his debut recording. John comes from North Carolina and his most well known song, "How He Loves", has been covered by a number of Christian artists. This live recording begins with wild, enthusiastic applause. He's got a really good, engaging voice and one that I really enjoyed listening to. There's almost a modern country feel about some of the songs, including "Borderland" and "Love At The End". Both of these songs are fantastic in production with a wall of sound that I simply loved. A number of guest vocalists join John on stage, including Brian Torwalt on the medium paced "Death In His Grave", andI think that it's John's wife, Sarah, who joins him for a powerful duet called "King Of My Heart". With it being a live recording, there's room for John to talk inbetween songs and this helps stitch the different songs together with real meaning. Kim Walker-Smith features on "Future/Past" and "How He Loves", providing a great contrast between voices. It's an appealing album that has some real high points and should introduce John to many new fans. 8/10
John Mark McMillan is well-known for writing the GMA Dove Award nominated Worship Song of the Year 'How He Loves' from his album 'The Medicine'. John has performed as a solo artist for over 10 years. 'How He Loves' has been listed by Integrity Music as one of the 25 most influential worship songs in the past 25 years and still today ranks on CCLI’s Top 25 chart. In collaboration with Jesus Culture, John Mark McMillan recorded his first live album and film at a sold out show in Charlotte’s Knight Theater on May 29 2015, which subsequently released in the autumn of 2015 as 'Live At The Knight'. John Mark McMillan has never been one of those artists to sound or even write like someone else. He has never been someone to sound like a trend or genre because a label think that's what people want to hear. John has always written straight from his poetic heart and it's that honesty that draws people to his music. He is so clever with his words, I would compare him, and maybe comparing him is the wrong term, but I would put him up there in a similar songwriting style to someone like Bob Dylan. If either Bob or John are offended by that comment I apologise! This album sounds like a live album in all aspects. It not only sounds like you should expect a live album to sound, it also has an epic feel to it. Mix that with great creative songs and John singing at his best, and you really do have something very special.
I've just recieved the deluxe CD/DVD as a gift and the CD doesnt have all the tracks listed on the back. There's only 14 tracks on it (what would seem like the non-deluxe version). Is this right?
Can I assume that your stock will have a DVD of the concert which can be played on a UK DVD player? Having difficulty getting a copy.
