I am looking at the refence bible what is the difference between that and the study bible.

A:Thanks for your question about the difference between reference and study Bibles. A 'reference' Bible has whichever Bible translation text you choose, plus lists of other Bible verses that relate to the same theme, person, event printed next to that verse. For instance, in Matthew 5: 38, Jesus says: "You have heard that it was said, an eye for eye, and tooth for tooth..." A reference Bible will add the Bible references (sometimes called cross-references): Exodus 21:24; Lev. 24:20; Deut. 19:21 so that you can find other verses relating to this teaching in the Old Testament. There are a number of cross referencing systems; such as 'chain reference' and 'Strong's System', but they all do more or less the same thing. Reference Bibles may also contain explanatory notes, maps, and other information but the main feature is the inclusion of the references to inter-related verses. A Study Bible will include these related references and much more. You'll find extensive notes, explanations, historical context, theological reasoning and many maps, pictures, timelines and diagrams to help you understand who wrote the Bible, why they wrote it, how we know about it and what it means today. There are many study Bibles using most of the popular Bible translations. Here are some you might consider in the NIV, ESV and KJV. I've tried to choose the most economical of each type, but more expensive versions, sizes, print sizes and bindings are available: Yours,
