Is the Bible Really the Word of God?: The Doctrine of Scripture

The Bible is continually under attack: Is it really the Word of God? Isn't the Bible full of mistakes and contradictions? Can't you interpret the Bible to make it say whatever you want? Didn't a fourth century church council decide which books went into the Bible and which were rejected? Wasn't the Bible copied and translated so many times that we can't know what was originally written? Even more subtle are the attempts by some to add to Scripture or to water down its teachings.

Even sincere Christians have many questions about the Bible: Is the Bible our final and only authority? Which Bible translation is the best for me to read? How do we go about reading the Bible? How do we apply it to our lives today?

There are good reasons for believing that the Bible really is the Word of God. Even the attacks on Scripture perform a helpful service: they force us to think more deeply and clearly about the Bible, giving us convincing reasons to read and obey God's Word.
