Walter Brueggemann and Tod Linafelt have joined together to produce a commentary, now in it's second edition, that fast became an Old Testament studies core textbook.
'An Introduction to the Old Testament' covers every book in canonical order, giving the reader a broad theological scope in which to view the Old Testament. Focusing on literature, this clearly written textbook studies the progression of Israel's religious, political, and ideological context. The two notorious authors successfully map out the development of theological concepts in biblical writings from the Torah through to post-exilic Judaism.
This excellent textbook offers the invite to it's readers to engage in the construction of meaning as they travel through these ancient texts.
Walter Brueggemann is the William Marcellus McPheeters Professor Emeritus of Old Testament at Columbia Theological Seminary. Whilst Tod Linafelt is Professor of Biblical Literature in the Theology Department at Georgetown University. Both have dedicated their scholarly life's to the study of the Old Testament.
