In Every HeartbeatMary Bartholomew, via The Good Book Stall
Set in Chambers, Missouri, September 1914, this is the story of three young people brought up in an Orphanage, starting out at University, on scholarships from a donor who had agreed to sponsor the Home’s first graduates. The Home was run by a loving, though strict, Christian couple Mr and Mrs Rowley. Libby had longed to be adopted by Maelle, Mrs Rowley’s sister, but it was not to be – and it rankled. The other two, Pete and Bennett had also longed for adoption, very different characters but firm friends in their youth.
Here at the University, their lives take them in different directions though the bond is still there.
Bennett resents the closeness of Libby and Petey, as she always thinks of him. Pete is training to be a Minister and knows, or thinks he knows, Libby is not for him.
All this plays out with some surprising twists and turns, nothing like you can possibly imagine, so give yourself a treat, curl up with this and enjoy, as I did.
