Hospitality and Community after Christendom
Full Product Description
The book re-examines Jesus' intentions, the wider biblical material, and congregational practices of sharing Communion as well as drawing on radical church history to demonstrate that despite increasing marginalization, hospitality and community are essential to the church's nature, well-being and mission. It goes on to use many practical examples, as well as leadership strategies to enable congregations to restore hospitality and community to its necessary place. It also provides an accessible theology as well as some original liturgies to underpin Christian life as we move forward after Christendom.
Hospitality and Community after Christendom by Andrew Francis was published by Paternoster Press in September 2012 and is our 7832nd best seller. The ISBN for Hospitality and Community after Christendom is 9781842277478.

Hospitality and Community after ChristendomMelanie Carroll, via The Good Book Stall
What a great book - one that not only provides sound insight and benchmarking for new communities and Fresh Expressions as they are being practiced, but one that is so perfect for a wider church audience, reawakening and opening the doors to the idea of hospitality and community. It shines fresh light on the relevance of sharing communion, that is breaking bread together, sharing with each other, welcoming not only each other but the stranger outside the door too. This book makes a gently impassioned plea for a real acceptance and return to the root idea of hospitality as found in the Bible and in earlier traditions. As such it is a thoroughly researched and expounded work that is a joy to read – welcoming in its simplicity of phrase but depth of idea.
This book, along with Roger Standing's As A Fire By Burning from SCM Press, are welcome books on the subject of mission, though in Hospitality and Community after Christendom we do not find the word mission expounded on as such, but the art and act of hospitality as presented in this book really is active mission. With these two books we have a comprehensive study of mission at its best. Though this is only half the price of As A Fire By Burning, it is not half the book – so if you really can't stretch to the cost of As A Fire By Burning you won't go wrong with this book instead. Though so much the better to have both on the shelf and under your belt.
