High Days and Holy DaysMartin Brasier, via The Good Book Stall
This collection of 30 hymns provides fresh resources for those occasions where there is not an over-abundance of suitable material to choose from, such as Bible Sunday, the Sunday at the start of Christian Aid Week, the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, the New Year, Church Anniversaries / Patronal Festivals and so on. Major occasions such as Christmas and Holy Week have been omitted, and I suspect that much of the book's contents will be unfamiliar to the great majority of church musicians. (The ubiquitous "Lord, for the years" is here, but so are some new alternatives.)
All 30 items are "proper hymns" in that they have a consistent verse pattern, they rhyme consistently, and if you don't like the tune(s) suggested you can pick up the nearest hymn book and very probably find another that will fit.
As such, this book is likely to be a very useful supplement to anyone seeking to encourage the use of thoughtful and relevant material in a traditional format, and to anyone looking to recycle favourite but disused hymn tunes with contemporary words.
