From A Distance
Full Product Description
Determined to become one of the country's premier newspaper photographers, Elizabeth Westbrook travels to the Colorado Territory to capture the grandeur of the mountains surrounding the remote town of Timber Ridge. She hopes, too, that the cool, dry air of Colorado, and its renowned hot springs, will cure the mysterious illness that threatens her career, and her life.
Daniel Ranslett, a former Confederate sharpshooter, is a man shackled by his past, and he'll do anything to protect his land, and his solitude. When an outspoken Yankee photographer captures an image that appears key to solving a murder, putting herself in danger, Daniel is called upon to repay a debt. He's a man of his word, but repaying that debt could bring secrets from his past to light.
Forced on a perilous journey together, Daniel and Elizabeth's lives intertwine in ways neither could have imagined when first they met . . . from a distance.

From a DistanceMary Bartholomew, via The Good Book Stall
Set in 1875, soon after the war between the southern and northern states of what is now the USA, the characters in this trilogy show clearly the stresses and strains of what that war left behind. Each book focuses on the love story between two individuals from different backgrounds.
From a Distance describes the coming to the Colorado territory, of a young female photographer, Elizabeth Westbrook. She has left behind a loving father and an affluent lifestyle, but the need to achieve something for herself in her chosen profession has led to her accepting a commission from the editor of the Washington Daily Chronicle. She has employed as her assistant and companion, a black man, Josiah Birch, which is frowned upon by some in the developing town of Timber Ridge. Very quickly, other residents of the town are introduced into the story including a young widow Rachel Boyd with her young sons, and Rachel’s brother James, the sheriff, and his friend Daniel. Along the way, we get a picture of the beauty to be found in the Rocky Mountains, and the harsh conditions in the winters. As you would expect, the story is not of a smooth romance, more a mixture of adventure, murder and detection, and finally the coming together of two strong characters to achieve lasting good for the region.
A boxed set of this trilogy is now available at £22.99 ISBN 978-0-764-29360-3
