Finding Your Leadership Style: A Guide for MinistersJohnny Douglas, via The Good Book Stall
This is a robust, rigorous and rich sweep of metaphors for Christian ministry. Lamdin speaks from a pool of trans-denominational ministry and leadership. This tracks wisdom from contrasting sources and comes as part of the growing reservoir of SPCK ministry specialisms, particularly nurturing leadership shape. Although a slim 115 page overview of different kinds of leadership styles, this is a useful aid for the curious and growing soul in resourcing the discernment of what specific emphasis of leadership is most fitting for them. There is a great platform of leadership introductions, with six modes of leadership explored, concluding with a chapter on the weightiness of leadership.
An unusual sweep of types of leadership such as monarch, warrior, servant, elder, contemplative and prophet are explored. These are useful if not altogether apt metaphors for inviting personal formation. Lamdin gives emphasis to the British churches tendency towards monarch warrior types with an expiration concern. A breadth and diversity of Ephesians Ch 5 types are surely needed in pastoral leadership roles and this title offers godly wisdom, experienced insight and scholarly research. Worthy of meaningful study time and thoughtful application.

"If you’re lost a map can be very useful. But if you’re in uncharted territory a guide is what you need. But if no guide is available you need to learn how to read the landscape and navigate by the stars. This book is not a map of leadership. It is written by someone whose wisdom has helped me enormously. Keith Lamdin is a guide to be trusted. But the real value of the book is this: in the ever changing landscape of our own leadership it will teach you how to travel well." - Stephen Cottrell, Bishop of Chelmsford
"There are few people I know who are better resourced than Keith Lamdin to write on this subject. Keith has reviewed and tested a huge amount of material over the years and put together, with his know-how, this book which will inform you and form you as a leader. This is no ‘do it like this and it will work’ but is packed with wisdom and challenge and will repay careful study." - Mike Hill, Bishop of Bristol
"Finding Your Leadership Style helpfully contributes to the current complex discussions on Christian leadership by looking through a scriptural lens at changing motifs for leadership today. The mix of personal stories, good cross referencing, and the examination of the pros and cons of a range models from ‘warrior’ to ‘contemplative’ offers a good tool for those in leadership to reflect on their ministry today." - Elizabeth Welch, Former Moderator of the URC Assembly, Chair of MODEM and minister at Clapton Park United Reformed Church at the Round Chapel, Hackney, London
