Fields of GraceMary Bartholomew, via The Good Book Stall
I didn’t feel too great and needed a good story to take my mind off how I felt. Fields of Grace fulfilled this brief perfectly. A love story with historical interest: Kim Vogel Sawyer says in her introduction that it reflects her own Mennonite family’s coming to America. The Mennonites were forced out of Germany due to persecution. Catherine the Great of Russia promised them safety and protection but a regime change forced many of them to leave for America where at last they found permanent freedom to live and worship as they wished.
This is the story of one of these families as they travel to America and settle in Kansas. There is bereavement along the way, love and misunderstandings, hard living and strenuous work, and a happy ending. Just what I needed.
