Faith MapsJohn Irvine, via The Good Book Stall
The author is a Jesuit and professor of fundamental theology. He asserts in his introduction that he has “a passion for making sense of faith for this new world.” This book examines ten major writers, both men and women, all “giants” of nineteenth and twentieth century theology, and interprets them for the ordinary reader. The maps of faith are there to help us find our way in our contemporary fragmented culture and to make sense of complex issues. All these giants are indeed difficult to read in their original works, but Gallagher gives each of them an imaginary monologue spoken in layman’s language, which makes them more accessible. This a book that requires perseverance but which pays off handsomely in the end.
