Crossing the DesertAlice Collins, via The Good Book Stall
This little slip of a book is a self-help manual by an author who has written in that area before. If you are trapped in one of life's many deserts, this manual will help explore your sense of self and lead you towards true happiness. I found myself thinking 'hmm', but just because self-help books don't set my heart on fire doesn't mean that they won't work for others! I know how popular they are in America – and indeed, this seems to be intended more for the American market. This manual is more spiritual than religious and I would advise any interested reader to look at the introduction with care, as it helps to explain the author's philosophical insights into the wisdom of the Desert Mothers and Fathers. A useful exercise for those who are going through their own private wilderness years.
