Christian EthicsJohn Morris, via The Good Book Stall
This updated book by three American professors has a proven track record amongst undergraduate courses in the States. It offers sixteen case studies, ten of them new, on contemporary social issues, and follows each one with a commentary that highlights the importance of the underlying Christian ethical dimensions that can help individuals and communities in character formation. Though the cultural context is largely American, and the style not light reading, the issues on war, immigration, homelessness, water resources, marriage versus living together, and others all have wider relevance. Readers are usually not given slick answers but challenged to make up their own minds. However, there are occasional surprising judgements: ‘Christians serve in the military reluctantly and with a heavy heart’ (p87). What is the evidence for Christians' reluctance and should they be reluctant?
