I Think It's God CallingMelanie Carroll, via The Good Book Stall
I read this book in one sitting and in just over 3 hours as I could not putit down, it was in turns honest, amusing, warm, witty and above all transparently relevant and real, albeit in a strangely glossed over way. There's a reason though for that glossed over feel, and it's touched on insightfully by the author herself, and that's because at the end of the day each persons journey and experience of vocation discernment and formation is going to be different and particular to them. That said this book is a refreshingly helpful look at what might be experienced a little and is a great way to gain just a little more insight into a journey you may be contemplating on ... or even trying to find a way to avoid taking.
From atheist to deacon this is an amusingly told story that highlights some real issues in a gently engaging way ... faith, feminism, focus and frumpiness all get a look in at some points, but so does discernment, dialogue, dishwashing and dressing up. I don't think it matters if you are a man or woman, young or older ... if you are considering whether it is God calling you to ordained ministry then this is probably going to be an interesting and enjoyable read, actually even if you aren't called to vocation it's likely going to be a good read ... and will certainly cause you to wonder some things about the ministers you meet, especially at early morning services if they look a little sleepy eyed.
