Speaking God’s Language: Using the Word of God in Your Prayers

How can we draw closer to God in prayer? How can we “speak God’s language”?

The Bible encourages us to bring our worship, praise, thanksgiving, and petitions to God. As Christians grow in the discipline of praying, it becomes clear that there is always more to learn.

Author Joni Eareckson Tada shares insights and personal stories that will hone your skill of including scripture in your prayers. As she puts it, “We can draw a lot closer to God in prayer when we learn to speak his language.”

In this 14-page pamphlet you will learn—

    • How to pray using the Scriptures
    • Bible passages for different situations
    • How to let prayer change you.

Full-color, 14-pages, glossy plastic coated for durability, fits inside a Bible cover, 8.5 x 5.5 inches.

About the AuthorJoni Eareckson Tada offers hope to people struggling with health and emotional challenges. After a 1967 diving accident leftJoni Eareckson Tada a spinal cord-injured quadriplegic, she embarked on a lifelong study to make sense of suffering from God’s perspective. ""When Joni Eareckson Tada writes about hardship, it's real. When she says good can come from suffering, I wanted to know how....I wanted to gain a deeper understanding of the adverse circumstance I'm in. I was surprised that such a small pamphlet could offer such a large portion of hope and courage.""
Carol Witte""I love how the pamphlets get to the point, saying exactly what I needed to hear in an easy-to-understand way. Plus, they are light weight and can fit in my purse, making them easy to take to the doctors' office or to my chemo appointments. If you know someone fighting a terminal illness or even their family members who need encouragement as well, I highly recommend you check out these pamphlets.""
Cindy Curran ""The new pamphlets from Rose Publishing by Joni Eareckson Tada are a treasure for both Pastors and Chaplains. Joni has the ability to answer so many hard asked questions by her experience. Her love of God and her knowledge of His Word linked with her genuine empathy for people that are suffering and questioning God is uncanny.""
Dr. Skip Lewis, Director of Chaplaincy, Heart of Florida""Joni is at once a student and a teacher. She searches for answers, and then ably guides those who are seeking to understand some of the same difficult questions she has asked about suffering, anger, God’s sovereignty and prayer. She is candid about her personal struggles, but addresses each of them by providing biblical illustrations of how God is always present and in control. Through her practical counsel, Joni empowers anyone who has endured painful experiences in life to trust and turn toward God.""

Study Questions for Speaking God’s Language by Joni Eareckson Tada:

    1. Read pages 1-2. We know that the Lord hears our prayers and cares for us, no matter how we pray. This pamphlet invites us to learn how to bring Scripture into our prayers. What are the benefits of using the Bible as you pray?
    2. Read page 3. These three stories of important biblical people who used Scripture in their prayers give us new ideas. What insight was most important to you?
    3. Read pages 4-6 on “Deeper Prayer” and look at the examples of verses that suit different needs: financial, emotional, physical illness, reconciliation, plans for the future. How might you use a prayer such as these in your life?
    4. Read pages 8-10 and Joni’s story about prayer that changed her attitude toward her husband. This illustrates that sometimes we pray to change circumstances, and God changes us instead. When have you seen the Lord do this in your life?
    5. Read panels 11-13. What does it mean to pray in Jesus’ name? Some people think it is a magical phrase that forces God to do what they want. What does it mean to “pray in a way that reflects Jesus’ character and his priorities”?
    6. Read panel 13 again. Write a prayer to the Lord that expresses your gratitude for his care, love, and guidance.
