In this live DVD recording of Louie and Chris Tomlin’s ‘How Great Is Our God’ world tour, Louie gives you back your appreciation of the greatness and glory of God – an appreciation this world would belittle and trivialise. But Louie’s having none of it, and gives you a dynamic, exciting presentation of how great is our God really is.
This is not a denial of facts and the real world, rather it’s a reordering of the scientific evidence in the context of the glory and majesty of God’s creation. In this 40 minute talk, with more of the stunning images you’ve seen in ‘Indescribable’, Louie speaks passionately about the science underpinning his preaching. With astonishing images of the stars and heavens beyond our sight, he uses the marvels of astronomy to reveal God in his universe.
Equipping you to understand how huge God is – not only in the vastness of creation but in your own, individual life – and in the lives of those you’d seek to win to Him, Louie illustrates his message with facts, statistics and striking images to create a powerful presentation of just how great is our God. Louie compares the largest know star, Canis Majoris, to the beginning of human life as one cell to show you the grand scale of God’s creation, and his attention to the tiniest human detail.
This repackaged, re-issue of Louie Giglio’s popular DVD talk features a multi-angle viewing function and is ‘region 0’ so will play on UK DVD players. Running time is approximately 40 minutes.

“The reason I really loved this DVD was that along with the magnificent photos, and the interesting format used by Louie Giglio, the viewer is left with sure knowledge that in spite of the enormity of the universe, in spite of the vastness of planet earth, God has still put His stamp on each tiny human being through the amazing DNA molecules and the laminin that holds us together, just as His intelligent design holds together the entire universe.” – Jeanne Gibson, Springfield, Oregon.
Louie Giglio has a sense of the miraculous. And he's enthusiastic – almost desperate, about giving to others too. Sometimes it’s as though he thinks he’s the only one who's noticed the vastness and wonder of creation, and that he only notice it himself last night. With this kind of energy, you get sucked pretty quickly into Louie’s sheer joy at knowing that it was all made by the same fatherly God who’s got Louie, you, me and everyone else, in the palm of his hand.
But Louie doesn’t hang around in space just admiring the stars and planets – though he spends quite a lot of time giving you the most mind boggling facts and figures (what is a quadrillion?) to prove just how vast creation really is. He gets up close and personal too. This God who’s big enough to speak whole galaxies into being -each one with trillions stars, is also involved at the scale of the most intricate levels of life. The same force that fashioned the giant Canis Majoris star, also made the trillions of microscopic cells that make up every individual human being.
And Louie’s not satisfied to just give you an appreciation of creation’s structure and mechanics. He wants his viewers to know that God is an intimate part of the universe and interacts with it at a personal level. This is a God who is aware of your circumstances and is intimately acquainted with everything you do. This great designer, creator and sustainer, is the God who cares.
A strength of ‘How Great Is Our God’, as a group study teaching and outreach resource, is that it meets its viewers where they are - in the place where we, 'dwellers all in time and space', need to find hope, even in the midst of the darkest places in life. As Louie Giglio goes on to discuss, the human journey is often complicated and painful, filled with confusion and chaos. This is where he reveals the great surprise of his talk: God’s promise in Christ. This is God’s promise to preserve and restore, to hold and hold on, to give strength in his unfailing love. - Les Ellison
Toward the end of the DVD, Louie talks about a chance meeting with a molecular biologist – a scientist who studies the very basic level of the functions of life itself. He persuaded Louie to give him the outline his ‘How Great Is Our God’ passion talk, which Louie did. When he’s finished, the scientist asked Louie, ‘What’s your big left hook? By that he meant what’s your knock out punch that gives irresistible purpose to your talk – what’s going to change your audience’s mind? Louie didn’t know, precisely, what that would be – the talk was still in its first draft form.
The scientist answered the question for him: ‘it’s laminin.’
If you’ve watched Louie Giglio’s ‘Indescribable’ passion talk DVD, you’ll have been ‘knocked out’ by the final image he puts up. Taken by the Hubble Space Telescope of the core of the Whrilpool Galaxy, 31 million light years away, the image is unmistakable. If you haven’t seen it, I won’t spoil the surprise. But when Louie puts up the electron microscope image of laminin, there’s no ignoring that it’s the same, significant and life changing shape.
Laminin is the tiny protein molecule that stops us falling apart – literally. It works like glue. The protein holds together the cells that make up body tissues which in turn make up our organs which together constitute our whole bodies. Without laminin, we’d be a heap of disorganised, purposeless microscopic cells. With laminin, we are whole beings.
Louie isn’t slow to point out that the shape which hold us at our inner most being, is the same as that which watches over us and the whole of creation. Just as the God who made and maintains the universe is also at the core of our being and purpose holding us together.
Louie doesn’t leave his live or DVD audience with a sugary sweet, unrealistic promise that, because God is over all and in all, that all will be 'comfort and joy'. He is realistic. Even God’s own son wasn’t guaranteed a life free from sacrifice, heartache, suffering, pain, injustice and cruelty. And neither are we. What God promises is that, as we go through all of these things, – and we will, that God will still be in us and over us. He will not leave us to bear these things alone, and he’s left us a sign in the heavens and in our hearts – literally! – Les Ellison
‘How Great Is Our God’ is the partner DVD and sequel to Louie Giglio’s ‘Indescribable’. Sub titled ‘The Heavens Proclaim the Glory of God!’ Louie completes your rediscovery of the God of creation. Taking you from the outer reaches of the universe to your innermost being, Louie’s breathtaking photographs - of the cosmic and microscopic, show the same, significant shape watching over us from the heavens and literally holds us together. Louie’s infectious enthusiasm for God makes this DVD a revelation for private viewing, small group study and an outreach to questioning, thinking people with an interest in the universe, life and faith.
Some mind blowing figures from ‘How Great is Our God’.
The sun, an average sized star is a million times the size of the earth.
The Whirlpool galaxy is 31 million light years away… it contains 300 billion stars and it’s just one of hundreds of billions of other galaxies in the known universe.
Betelgeuse, a red super-giant star, is twice the size of the earth’s orbit around the sun. If the earth were a golf ball, Betegeuse would be the height of six Empire State Buildings on top of that. You could fit 262 trillion earths inside Betelgeuse, that’s like filling the Super Dome with golf balls – 3,000 times over.
The largest star is Canis Majoris, “the big dog star. If the earth were a golf ball, Canis Majoris would be height of Mount Everest. You could fit 7 quadrillion Earths inside this one star, that’s’ like covering the entire state of Texas in golf balls, 22 inches deep.
What’s a quadrillion? Well it’s one thousand trillion (a trillion is a thousand billion, and a billion is a thousand million)… or to put it another way, a million seconds back is twelve days ago, but to travel back a trillion seconds is 30,000 BC, and to travel back a quadrillion seconds is to revisit 30 million years BC.)
