Presentation of the Theotokos in the Temple

The feast celebrating the tradition (from the Protoevangelium of James) that Mary was brought to the Jerusalem Temple as a child at the age of three, to be dedicated to God, where she lived in the Holy of Holies. In Orthodox theology, this reveals Mary's unique vocation: as the one who would "contain the uncontainable God" within her womb, she was set apart in the Temple before the incarnation.
In Catholic tradition, this is the Memorial of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (November 21). It usually falls on or around November 21 (fixed).
