Aim Suicide a grave public health concern, causes deaths of over 8 million populace every year. In comparison to other states of India, Telangana recorded 3rd highest suicide rate; almost double the national suicide rate. Further for the year 2016, DALYS (disability-adjusted life years) and YLLS (Years of Life Lost) for suicide is on 5 th and 3 rd position, respectively. Further, past literature has established that previous suicide attempt as a significant risk factor of suicide with the occurrence of a suicide attempt is 20 times greater than suicide. The present study explored sociodemographic, psychosocial and genetic risk factors of suicide-related behavior among the population of Warangal district, Telangana. Methodology The study has three study designs, in the first study design retrospective analysis of the trends and determinants of suicide in Warangal district Telangana, India was achieved by statistical analysis of 7 years (2010-2016) retrospective data of suicide decedents (N=1612) collected from Mahatma Gandhi Memorial hospital, Warangal, Telangana. In the second study design case profiling of suicide decedents and suicide attempters was achieved by analysing primary data on sociodemographic variables (age, gender, caste, religious affiliation, marital status, consanguinity, family type, education, occupation, socioeconomic status and lifestyle habits) and suicidal behavior characteristics (location, time, season, method, family or self-history of suicidal behavior, alcohol intoxication during attempt, cause) collected from suicide attempters (N=150) and key informants of suicide decedents (N=206) through pretested and modified interview schedule. In the third case-control study design, the sociodemographic, psychosocial and genetic risk factors of suicide attempt was achieved by analysing difference between suicide attempters and their age, gender, caste, neighborhood matched controls (N=129) in domain of sociodemographic variables (age, gender, caste, religious affiliation, marital status, consanguinity, family type, education, occupation, socioeconomic status and.
