‘After this, I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no-one could count...And they cried out in a loud voice:"Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb"’ (Revelation 7:10).
Chris Wright uses this verse as a lens through which he surveys the Bible’s teaching on ‘salvation’. Every phrase in the verse resonates with significant themes in the Old and New Testaments, all of which combine to show that the Bible tells the story of God's salvation very broadly indeed, in relation to the character and purposes of God, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the redemption of all creation, the joy of Christian experience and the responsibility of Christian mission.
This clear, deep and warm-hearted exposition enriches our grasp of the Bible’s multi-faceted teaching about salvation.

Based around Revelation Ch7:9-10, this is an in-depth look at salvation in both the Old and New testaments with reference to human need and experience, God’s uniqueness, His covenants with the Israelites and with us and His sovereignty, culminating in the Lamb. The author explores what God’s people throughout history have understood by salvation, the large variety of ways it has been manifested and how the Bible presents and explains it, all underpinned by gratitude that God believes we are worth saving at all. “God created us in His own image. God loves and cares for us. God is moved to grief and anger by our sin and compassion by our weakness. And so, God saves us.” More of a study than a ‘celebration’, but an interesting and uplifting read all the same.
