Ali Green offers a theology of women’s priesthood from a Christian feminist perspective. She suggests a feminist reconfiguration of the Eucharistic Prayer and demonstrates how the symbolism of the liturgy allows for new interpretation informed by women’s experience. She gives new insights into liturgical symbolism and the sacramental significance of the woman priest.
“Ali Green opens up new frontiers in the debate about the theology and significance of women’s ordination.” Professor Tina Beattie, Roehampton University
Dr Green is an Anglican priest currently working in the church in Wales. This is her first book.

This is a scholarly work rather than a popular read and the author does sterling work in making an effort to move beyond the well worn paths of debate about women’s priesthood into thoughts about what women priests add to the theology of priesthood more broadly. She makes some interesting observations about motherhood and perhaps circumvents the difficulty of the fact that not all women are mothers by speaking more about symbolism than reality. She also examines the idea of the of women priests symbolically bringing outcasts into the community of Christ. But it is the conclusion, richly peppered with moving observations from priests and laity, which is the highlight of the book for me, leaving me with many more thoughts to ponder on.
