The Meaning of Love

Any attempt to bring about some chosen end through a means which is by its very essence ill-suited thereto is an act of absurdity. One such act might be a wish to stop ice from melting under the heat of one's hands by throwing it into an open flame. Another such act might be the desire to bring about a vitalised world by throwing oneself into the political.
To any and all of the afflictions of this present stage of civilisation, there is no political solution. On the contrary, the gradual politicalisation of all aspects of modern life itself represents one of the highest sicknesses of the age. Any vitalised civilisation would be essentially incapable of summoning up that ever-present fervour of politicalism which so marks today. Man can only willingly bring about that which already rests so much inside of him. In our will to bring about something better, then, let us not fall at the first hurdle. Let us cast our glance forever away, and cast the political out of our hearts.
In place of this desire to somehow and someday effect something indeterminate, something which lies beyond our mind's horizon, let it instead be resolved to transfigure our immediacy, our here and our now. Life's Eviction seeks to establish for the modern reader a bridge to the comprehension of traditional thought and a spiritualised mode of being. Through its nine essays, the premises of modernity, be they ethical or metaphysical, subtle or explicit, come to be dismantled in their entirety. In clearing such confusions away, one can once again be disposed to catch a slight glimpse of the eternities above.
