Jesuit William J O'Malley is Professor of Religion at Seattle University. He is also an octogenarian so has a vast amount of life-experience behind him. In this book he offers a timeless wisdom which comes from many years of ministry, teaching and pastoral care. As someone who is now a septagenarian I found his insights connected with my own experience in its strengths, weaknesses, aspirations and failures. He brings illustrations and quotes to issues which everyone in older age confronts, but all the time draws the readers towards a deeper faith and a closer walk with Christ. The book is a reminder that Paul's fruit of the Spirit (Galations 5) is still relevant today for good communities and positive living. However old you are, don't give up and settle into some mediocre patter but keepon looking for and doing new things. Death may come to us all in the end, but life is for living in the here and now and (in O'Malley's words) "being comfortable with God."
