Autobiography of George Müller

This is an imposing tome two inches thick, but don’t be put off. It tells in great detail the amazing story of a young man in Prussia coming to a deep faith, moving to England and becoming the founder of five Orphan houses in Bristol. Many people now know that much of the story, but there is so much more to tell. His total reliance on prayer for income was an act of faith unheard of at that time. This was income for his wife and family, his orphanage work, his missionary work, the distribution of Bibles, the setting up of schools and other charitable work. Every penny received was meticulously recorded and he gave thanks to God in anticipation of help as well as thanksgiving for what had been received. On page 377, he exhorts exhausted readers, to put the book by, and read on in small passages, good advice, though I found this compulsive reading for its sheer wonder.
