The prophet Amos preaches astounding words from God that He is about to judge and destroy His own people. Amos wields his voice with surprising refinement and rich analogies from nature. He thunders against the selfishness that has birthed sinful addictions, violence, corrupt religion and injustice. The prophet provokes tough questions about private and public morality which challenges stubborn hearts and social structures. Yet God's tender concern for Israel aches within words such as, "Seek me and live" (5:4). The only cure? To repent and recommit to an all-consuming love for the Lord.
