We Review NIV Clear Print Bible

Les Ellison

The most revolutionary Bible since we gave up on scrolls – and with print that out-giants giant print in the same number of pages.

When I first heard of this I thought it was just novelty for novelty’s sake. A quirky Bible that looks like a… well, it’s surprisingly hard to put into words. Do I say a Bible that opens with its pages in ‘landscape’ rather than ‘portrait’? Opens like a wall calendar with a picture above and dates laid out below? Or, like the publishers say; a sideways binding with the pages turned through 90 degrees?

It sounds strange – it looks strange, but it really is a revolutionary good idea. The biggest benefit is that you get an NIV Bible with the same number of pages – and same page numbers, as your church pew Bible, complete with footnotes and maps, but with 50% bigger print. And that’s a difference that makes a difference – more than most ‘giant print’ Bibles. The only downside is won’t easily stay open on a sloping lectern. But you can open it flat on your lap without encroaching on the person next to you – important on cramped pews and public transport. And it lies open on the table without encroaching on your breakfast! In the right place, this is a purposeful giant print Bible for when you need depth without the width.
