Passion Essential Collection CD Review

This compilation of worship songs sung live at Passion conferences in the USA is set to sell very well indeed. A quick glance at the track listing will reveal modern classics including “10,000 Reasons”, “You Never Let Go”, “Waiting Here For You”, “Our God (Is Greater)” and “In Christ Alone”. The average Christian who goes to a church where there’s a band rather than an organ will recognise the majority of the 15 songs on this record.

So what’s the problem? Well, Passion have released a new record every year (with few exceptions) since 1997. They’ve also already released a greatest hits album, although admittedly this was in 2006 and was titled The Best of Passion (So Far). But the question has to be asked ‘With yearly releases which sell widely, who really needs a compilation?’ I certainly don’t. But it seems plenty of others do, or the record label wouldn’t have bothered to put this out. My prediction is this will be a big seller, and is therefore worth stocking and playing in store.
