Only the Brave Review

Laura White

I’ve never been to Spring Harvest. That’s definitely something I intend to change very soon. The thought of a Christian conference where I can spend time with friends, learn more about Jesus and worship, all from the comfort of a chalet rather than a tent (sorry camping fans), definitely appeals.

And there's just something about live worship. Standing amongst other Christians, proclaiming God’s name and shouting praises. For me, it is so faith empowering. Spring Harvest’s 2018 live worship offering is no different.

Only The Brave - Live Worship From Spring Har

As expected, Only the Brave is a rousing, passionate outpouring of worship, kicking off with the aptly named ‘rise with a roar’ which starts with a declaration from the Lord’s Prayer: ‘your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven’, and some ‘woah’ing, for good measure.

Only the Brave feels like a statement as much as an album. The Church is not dead. It is alive, it is well and it is youthful!

Youthful elements feature throughout, with techno-beats and crowd-led clapping aplenty in both We Say Yes and This Is Jesus (The Saviour’s Song), both tracks which would fit in just as well on a Sunday all-age service as a Friday night youth worship event. In the same vein, I predict Your Kingdom Come with its catchy refrain, is set to be very popular at the various youth festivals this summer. This album truly does have something for everyone.

It's not all up-tempo, can’t get it out of your head tunes. There’s a streak of reflective worship including Pete James’ led Gracefully Broken and Kees Kraayenoord’s Build My Life. Both of which are reminiscent of Tim Hughes or Graham Kendrick. They’re still powerful but without the theatrics.

Of course no worship album would be complete without a version of Cory Asbury’s anthem, Reckless Love. Bright City take the lead on this track which is emotive and ethereal. They also take the lead on Hillsong’s So Will I (100 Billion X), the longest track on the album, featuring compelling drum beats and climbing melodies.

Capturing the faith and fervour of worship from Spring Harvest, Only the Brave delivers a sound of devotion and bold declaration. Featuring today’s biggest artists and worship anthems, it is set to be an essential collection for today’s Church.
