Adrian Plass is one of the most loved and best selling of Christian writers, speakers and broadcasters.
His many books include his groundbreaking satire 'The Secret Diary of Adrian Plass', 'Bacon Sandwiches and Salvation' and his latest book 'War of the Worlds; all written with his unique brand of sharp insight and warm, inclusive humour.
...very optimistic about being vulnerable."
Loved for his ability to find the silly side of church life, Adrian Plass’ honest and gently satirical writing on life, love and faith have made him one Christian literature’s most popular authors. Equally engaging in person, Adrian is a speaker and broadcaster travelling the world with his sell-out speaking tours.
Describing himself as a three times gold medal winner in the Doubt Olympics and “Very optimistic about being vulnerable,” Adrian Plass and his wife Bridget are the Christian circuit’s most in-demand husband and wife double act.
Secret Diary of a Reluctant Writer
It was the Editor Andrew Butcher who first noticed the success of Sue Townsend’s 'The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole' and suggested Adrian write a column for the magazine 'Family'.
“I just wrote some funny bits for the magazine,” says Adrian, but the intimacy 'The Secret Diary of Adrian Plass' established with the reader ensured the book's success.
Honest, Open and Real
Authenticity is the secret of Adrian Plass’ appeal. The gap between the private and the public, between who are and who we appear to be, is a constant thread in Adrian’s work.
From his first 'Secret Diary' books to his latest 'War of the Worlds', there is an open honesty about his own less than 100% record in bringing together private and public Christianity.
Broken Windows Broken Lives
Brought up in the Catholic tradition, Adrian met his wife Bridget in acting school before giving up the theatre for a family and a teaching career, then later a post in residential child care.
Work came to an end with a stress related illness. Turning to writing, his first short story, 'The Visit', was later made into the accalimed German short film 'Der Besuch'.
Starting out angry and upset and fed up with the church..."
Two steps forward one step back
Adrian Plass says he began writing stuff he thought no one would read. Recovering from his illness he recorded his experiences in 'Broken Windows, Broken Lives'.
Now with over 30 books to his name, Adrian Plass is a popular writer. With humility and humour, he is able to find the silly side of the church without humiliating it entirely.
Travels to Yorkshire and Beyond
Adrian and Bridget actively support Toybox; the charity committed to the street children of Latin America. Their involvement takes them all over South America and around the world on publicity and fund raising initiatives. 'Fountains in the Dust' is a record of their travels through Bolivia and Peru.
In August 2009, Adrian and Bridget left Hailsham to live in North Yorkshire near the Calendar Girls film back-drop village of Kettlewell. As ambassadors for the Scargill House project, they joined the small team dedicated to resurrecting the combined conference venue, holiday centre and Christian retreat.
Adrian Plass and Jeff Lucas: Seriously Funny
Starting life a series of letters between friends and turning into a successful book on life, love and God, 'Seriously Funny' is now a sell-out tour with a second book in the offing.
The combination of humour and insight, wit and wisdom enables Adrian Plass to break through barriers and address subjects that may popularist writers would trivialise or ignore.
Material from Adrian's live tours and experiences from real life find their way into his books. With a light, comforable format his collections of songs, poetry and drama have more practical spiritual insight than most longer and more intense writings by much less readable writers.
