A Little Bit About Philip Yancey
On many memorable occasions, journalist, pilgrim and bestselling author of 'Prayer' Philip Yancey has delivered speeches offering the right words in the wake of great wrongs; when the firing started during the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India; at the motel where Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated on the same night an African-American was being elected president of the country; on the Virginia Tech campus after the massacre in 2007 in the shadow of his own near-death experience. On each of these occasions Philip Yancey brought tidings of hope amid headlines of despair, to identify with those who are broken whilst offering insights of healing, but primarily to tell stories of grace for those in desperate need of it.
Philip grew up surrounded by strong conceptions of Christianity and God, being forced to think in certain ways and he was misguided and led down the wrong path to God. He eventually broke out of this world and started to discover his own faith and not the one that was pushed upon him. Yancey began to express his feelings and explore the Christian faith through books and writing, creating bestselling books such as 'Disappointment with God and Where it Hurts?' and has now gone on to produce over 15 million books worldwide and has asked poignant questions that have captured millions of Christians.
Philip is an outgoing individual who enjoys skiing, mountain climbing, nature and of course writing. He claims that he is recovering from a bad church upbringing and uses his writings to explore and investigate about issues he thinks about. Philip is regarded as an honest and talented writer and is described by Billy Graham, as a writer that he 'admires and appreciates more than any other'.
What Good is God? by Philip Yancey was published by Hodder & Stoughton in September 2010 and is our 9534th best seller. The ISBN for What Good is God? is 9780340996140.

What Good is GodMary Bartholomew, via The Good Book Stall
You know when you pick up a Philip Yancey book you are in for a good read and I am glad to say this is no exception.
As he travels around the world doing book signings, talking about the books he has written, he has found himself in a variety of situations and from these he shares a selection. First setting the scene and describing the people and places he has visited, the situations they find themselves in and how he has responded, then giving us the words of the talk he has been invited to give in that place. Places as diverse as Virginia Tec, USA, where there had been a massacre, to China, India, Cambridge, UK, and others, each inspiring different thoughts and needing to be addressed differently.
There are six of these experiences in this book, yet you feel that there are many more he could tell about and I wished he had: I could have read on and on.
