The Unquiet Bones
The Unquiet Bones by Melvin R. Starr was published by Lion Hudson Plc in September 2008 and is our 7198th best seller. The ISBN for The Unquiet Bones is 9781854248855.
The Unquiet Bones is a thrilling tale of crime and mystery and is the first chronicle of the Hugh of Singleton series.
Hugh of Singleton is the fourth son of a minor knight. He has been trained as a clerk - an education that often preludes to taking holy orders. Despite an active faith, Hugh does not feel a definite calling from God and instead decides to train as a surgeon in Paris. He then sets up a practice in Oxford, where the thrilling events will unfold...
The plot takes a mysterious twist when Hugh of Singleton is requested by a local Lord to find a young woman's murderer. The young woman was found in a castle cess pit and had been identified as the impetuous missing daughter of a local blacksmith. We find out that she had publically provoked a young man who is subsequently arrested and sentenced at the Oxford assizes.
At once, a mysterious crime thriller unfolds, with amusing medieval wit, heart-pounding adventure, romantic distractions and an underlying theme of Christian compassion...

Engrossing Medieval Murder Mystery - BlackPhi
A good story well told. Starr is a history teacher who clearly knows his period inside out, but he is also an entertaining writer who weaves characters, events and historical detail into a most enjoyable tale.
