Somewhere to Belong by Judith Miller is from the Daughters of Amana series and readers on a journey inside the picturesque villages of Amana. The Novel is set in 1877 Amana Colonies and tells the story of Johanna Ilg. Johanna has lived in Main Amana her entire life, in one of the seven villages inhabited by devout Christians. The Christians in Amana believe in living a simple life and live cooperative life style with a faithful service to god.

Johanna has always longed to see the world outside of Amana although she believes her future is rooted in the community. However when Johanna learns a troubling secret, the world she thought she knew is shattered and she is forced to make difficult choices about a new life and the man she left behind.

Berta Schumacher is used to living privileged life in Chicago, but when her parents to move to Amana to live a simpler life, she resists. Berta's rebellion reaches new heights under the strictures of the Amana villages. Will her heart ever be content among the plain people of Amana?
