Full Product Description
Hillsong United’s third studio album – ‘Zion’ – represents a God-centred progression by the ever-changing Australian youth worship band that has the potential to become the hallmark worship album of 2013.
The youth band birthed from worship mega-church ‘Hillsong’ have become accustom to re-inventing the worship wheel. Their last album, ‘Awakening’, saw the band move away from the conventional, repetitive and over-done sound we’ve all come to expect from a Hillsong album. So let me set the record straight once and for all – ‘Zion’ is indisputable proof of Hillsong United’s musical, lyrical and spiritual maturity.
MUSICALLY – it’s wonderful to hear them being so creative, unafraid of bending the barriers and pushing the boundaries. With dancy electro synth, swelling guitar riffs, some incredible drumming, moments of atmospheric calm and wild musical abandonment the feel of this album never rests on one sound
LYRICALLY – to sum up the albums theme in one word: Grace. The theme of God’s grace keeps piercing through with some rich and deep thoughts flowing through, like Jesus’ death being a ‘scandal of grace’.
SPIRITUALLY – Joel Houston uploaded the artistic trailer on Boxing Day 2012. He revealed, “the whole point of this album is the realisation that God is doing His thing, and He has already done it, He is establishing His Church, and it's through us.”
Featuring 13 brand new tracks, ‘Zion’ is far from average. If you’re looking for something original and worshipful, Hillsong United will exceed every expectation.
• Synth pop/rock opener with an ultramodern sound
• “Your Love is Relentless” – watch the trailer to hear the chorus
• Creative, Raw and EPIC
SCANDAL OF GRACE
• Best expression of the Cross I’ve heard since ‘You Chose the Cross’
• Opening Lyric: “Grace, what have you done // Murdered for me on the cross // Accused, in absence of wrong // My sin washed away in your blood.”
• Pre-Chorus: “The scandal of grace // You died in my place // So my soul will live.”
OCEANS (WHERE FEET MAY FAIL)
• Encouraging song about resting in God when oceans crash around you
• 9-minute climatic ballad, a raging waterfall of worship
• Led by newest member – Taya Smith (gorgeous soprano voice)

Having caught a fresh vision for what it is that UNITED is called to do and what it means to be a part of the Church. Zion is ultimately about the realization that God is doing His thing, and He has already done it, He is establishing His Church, and itís through us. UNITEDís Joel Houston shares about the genesis of the project, ďThe album was birthed out of our cry, God I want to be a part of what it is youíre doing. If that means write a song, weíll write the best songs we can. If it means serving the poor and those who are hurting, then weíre going to do it better than weíve ever done it before.Ē
Zion. Itís an interesting word, with several meanings and connotations. We read about it, sing about it and even wonder where it is. In Biblical terms it is the hill on which the city of David was built and perhaps where the Ecclesiastical meaning of the highest place, or Heaven, comes from. Zion is precious to the heart of God and itís essentially what Jesus came to establish Ė Heaven on earth. God is birthing His kingdom in us and through us here on earth and that is exemplified through what Jesus is about: mercy, love, forgiveness, generosity, justice - all of those things - and thatís how we are called to live our lives. We get the chance to be a part of building Godís kingdom here on earth.
The whole point of this album is the realization that God is doing His thing, and He has already done it, He is establishing His Church, and itís through us.
Everything we do as UNITED, whether it be from recording or writing these songs, to playing them in front of people and all the production that goes with it or whatever part we play, itís all an expression of a really extraordinary God doing what only He can do through really ordinary people who love Him and want to serve Him. Thatís our desire, itís always been our desire and that hasnít changed; thatís been the one constant. I hope these songs, in some way, are an encouragement for people everywhere.

“So the album is called Zion. Zion is very precious to the heart of God, essentially what Jesus came to establish. This is a God who desperately wants to birth His kingdom through us.
The lyric being sung over and over: “Your Love is Relentless.” From the first track on the album – Relentless.
The Lord has chosen Zion. He has desired it for his home. Psalm 132: 13. [para]
“This album is brilliant, using modern sounds to create songs full of the grace of God, leaving the listener with a wonderful sense of worship. Any album that stops you in your tracks like that is doing what it's meant to do.” – Jono Davis, Louderthanthemusic.com Review.
“Hillsong UNITED has basically reinvented themselves, and the changes are amazing. Musically, this album goes where many would fear to tread and lyrically it's creative and approachable.” – Ryan Barbee, Jesusfreakhideout.com Early Review.
“Zion is a tour-de-force ready to stake its claim that Hillsong United has a face and it is not just a mere stepchild of the church.” – Breathecast.com Review.
“To label the new album as a fresh sound is to understate the originality that is Zion.” – Holyculture.net Review.
