About This paperback
One of the most beautiful features of the Gospel of Luke is the way it depicts Christ as the Champion and Saviour of the outcast and the oppressed. This series of studies examines in detail some of the case-histories of people of this sort who were reclaimed and restored by Christ.
Another significant feature in this Gospel is Luke's interest in death. In the course of his professional duties as a doctor, he would often have been obliged to stand by and watch a patient of his, in spite of all he could do for him, succumb to disease or old age; and he must have wondered about the significance of death. Was it the final catastrophe? Or was there something beyond? And could a man be certain about his destiny in the next world? In Christ, Luke found the answers to all these questions, and it is understandable that he should want to tell the world what those answers were.
But Luke, by presenting another group true stories, asks a third vital question. Suppose a man opens his heart and life without reserve to Christ, for him to rule there as absolute monarch: what kind of a king will Christ prove to be? The answer to that is the climax of the whole book.
