Wide Open SpacesMary Bartholomew, via The Good Book Stall
The contributors to this book were brought together in a Rehoboth group and were inspired by Carol Henderson, a writing coach and editor who became a friend to each one and encouraged them to write openly about themselves in a way they would never have done without her.. The group comprised women from diverse backgrounds all on life journeys that make for fascinating reading. Betty Berghaus, Cely Chicurel, Marilyn Hein, Debbie Kirk, Caroline Craig Proctor, Katie Ricks, Nancy Rozak, Liz Dowling Sendor, Marcia Mount Shoop, Susan Steinberg and Judy Stephens, each and everyone on different paths, all trying to obey the call from God to serve in his name.
A Rehoboth group in the USA is one where women of like mind, mostly Presbyterians, meet together monthly for mutual support, guidance and friendship, where they can unburden themselves with complete confidence in confidentiality, where joys and sorrows can be shared and prayed over.
Each story was thought provoking and inspiring. The difficulties these women have battled through and have overcome would have defeated many, but their absolute certainty that they were following the will of God led them ever onwards. They revealed their inmost thoughts in their writing and I felt privileged to read each one. I am sure a book written by English women in similar circumstances would be equally revealing.
