Understanding the Bible: Resources for R.E. Key Stage 2, Year 5

With the pressures facing teachers today, it is not always easy to find adequate preparation time for lessons. The purpose of Understanding the Bible is to provide RE lessons (Key stage 2, Year 5) which require a minimum of preparation and offer children a good understanding of how the Bible came to be written and how it can help them in their lives today.

With detailed lesson plans for teachers and photo­copiable worksheets for pupils, Understanding the Bible focuses on the key elements of the Bible, offering a range of activities so that teachers can select tasks appropriate to the age and ability of the pupils. There are puzzles, quizzes and verses for the children to look up, as well as explanations of the main themes so that children are provided with opportunities to develop their own attitudes and thinking on the central issues of the Christian faith.

The 23 lessons include:

• What is the Bible?
• Who brought it to our country?
• The birth, death and resurrection of Jesus
• Parables and Women of the Bible

all of which will help to make RE lessons a memorable and valid experience for pupils.
