About This paperback

The book is based on the story of Onesimus and uses the book of Philemon along with the author's imagination to introduce the themes of jealousy, forgiveness and the love of Christ.
Onesimus is a slave in Philemon's household. He resents his position as slave and the position of his one time best friend Archipus, Philemon's son.
The story is basically about Onesimus' journey through life, his jealousy of Archipus, his hatred of his own status in life and his continuing friendship with the young Eireene. He realises that the idols of the Roman culture and other nationalities around him do not meet his needs. He is searching for something but is not willing to give into Christ.
Onesimus lets his jealousy and anger get the better of him by inflicting injury on Archipus and by cheating his master by running away with his gold. Everybody believes Onesimus has died in an earthquake in Laodocea so no one looks for him.
This book shows the journey of a young man through life - unwilling to give his life up to Christ but in the end realising that he has no other choice if he wants to find what he has been seeking for all his life - beauty, purity and love.
The story ends with repentance, reconciliation and reunion as Onesimus repents of his sins, returns to his master who gives him his freedom as he is now a child of God. Onesimus is reunited with Archipus and the young merchant's daughter Eireene who has become a Christian too.
