True and Holy
Full Product Description
This volume, which offers Christian readings of Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, and Buddhist holy texts, offers a hermeneutic of generosity that yields new bases for friendship and understanding. Lefebure notes the challenges and tensions in the relationship between Christians and these four other religious communities, and also examines the specific issues involved in interpreting the Christian Bible in relations with Jews, Muslims, Hindus, and Buddhists. He concludes with a reflection on the experience of conversion from a hermeneutics of hostility to a hermeneutics of generosity in light of the theology of Bernard Lonergan and the mimesis theory of Rene Girard.
True and Holy by Leo D Lefebure was published by Orbis Books in February 2014. The ISBN for True and Holy is 9781626980532.

True And HolyMelanie Carroll, via The Good Book Stall
This is not light reading by any stretch of the imagination, but it is nevertheless engaging, erudite and essential reading for anyone that really wants to engage with other religions but wants to truly understand how we have engaged with other faiths and used biblical hermeneutics as a tool that has at times done more damage than good, and often when it didn't need to be.
This book really looks at the history of engagement, of apologetics and at the basis and value of christian scriptures when used in engagement with people of other faiths. It also gives a very important overview to how these past interactions can and do effect our current conversations and considerations ... and not just for those of the other faith, but more importantly how we have coloured our own views and perceptions of our faith and the others based upon a hermeneutic of hostility as opposed to respect as the author terms it.
This book is written in tight dense print and is without doubt academic in tone, and is sure to upset some people with it's views, it is however a book that is well worth consideration, especially for anyone that lives within a multicultural community or wants to really understand and engage with people from other religions.
