In her debut album ‘Treasure’ Lou Fellingham delivered a collection of songs up there with the finest things the Phatfish band have ever released. The strength of song writing and the integration of lyrics and accompaniment matched the gentle earnestness of Lou's voice. Among the tracks, "O God Of Love", "Hard Pressed" and "Amazing Love" turned out to be some of the finest worship tracks pointing toward the great things yet to come.
Then came ‘Promised Land’ with songs rich in melody and varied in style; alternately lifting the spirits and quieting the moody through good use of musical arrangements to carry a depth of meaning and emotion not common in modern worship.
With the benefit of excellent backing musicians, her now familiar voice (thanks to BBC Songs of Praise appearances) with the catchy songs and meaningful lyrics once again hit the mark with a quality that hasn’t lessened since the two albums first released. Here’s a welcome opportunity to introduce new listeners to Lou’s style of gentle heartfelt worship, catch up with what you’ve missed or renew your acquaintance with this double CD refresher.
Treasure & Promised Land 2CD by Lou Fellingham was published by Kingsway in April 2013 and is our 7616th best seller. The ISBN for Treasure & Promised Land 2CD is 000768518922.
"The fact that the Phatfish singer not only follows up her big selling 'Treasure' album with a project that is, to my ears, even better says much for the singing talent and compositional skill of Lou..."
"...Lou is a national Christian music treasure with a voice that has matured down the years from its acid jazz origins to sound as convincing on full-on power rockers as it is when purring wistful Celtic-tinged ballads. And with a heart clearly overflowing with love for the King of Kings Lou has produced the best work of her long and fruitful ministry." - Tony Cummings for CrossRhythms.
Since way back in 1994 Lou has become well known and loved as the lead singer of the Christian motivated band first known as Purple Phatfish and then simply Phatfish. Recording more than 10 CD albums (We Know the Story , Purple Through the Fishtank, Heavenbound, Hope – Unplugged Live, Nothing But The Truth, Faithful: The Worship Songs, Guaranteed, 15 – The Anniversary Collection, In Jesus, Anthems For Worship, Higher) together with a number of compilations, an EP, DVD an appearing on other people’s albums, Lou and the band have also toured extensively throughout the UK, Canada and America.
Lou has also served as part of the worship team at the Stoneleigh Bible weeks and makes fairly regular appearances on the BBC's 'Songs of Praise'. Her Debut solo album, 'Treasure', was released in early 2006 and proved to be much loved by both the critics and the public.
An album still much loved for songs such as 'O God of love' and the heart rending 'Prayer Song' she also offers up inspirational classics like 'Build this House', 'Hard Pressed' and of course the title track, 'Treasure'. The quality of Lou’s voice – a welcome change to the harshness of many female vocalists from across the Atlantic, was so well received on these shores that a follow-up was soon in demand.
In 2008, Promised Land satisfied the demand for more of Lou’s voice and sound, winning a CBC Worship Album of the Year. Like Treasure, Promised Land features a quality of production and musicianship which, coupled with Lou's exceptional delivery of songs, gives a listening experience that’s engaging, inspiring and spiritually challenging.
It is no wonder that expectations were high for her May 2010 solo album, Step Into The Light. Produced by keyboard maestro Mark Edwards and featuring musicians of such quality as Troy Miller (who was Amy Winehouse’s drummer) and Stu G (formerly of Delirious), with backing vocals from Lawrence Johnson and Ladaonna (who worked with Leona Lewis and Corinne Bailey Rae respectively), this album deserved every bit of the acclaim it received.
In 2012, Lou was well justified in releasing her first retrospective; the 31 track double CD, The Best of Lou Fellingham Live. Featuring covers of classic anthems - In Christ Alone, Before the Throne Above and Praise My Soul The King of Heaven, the disk shone with the signature Lou Fellingham and Phatfish tracks: Holy, Holy, See the Lamb of God, and To You King Jesus.
Lou Fellingham’s voice and outlook remains strong, worshipful and true. At the heart of all she does is a desire to communicate the love of God through her songs,. Her desire is to express truth, feed the church and bring revelation of God through her singing and song writing. It seems somehow right and fitting to re-release now her first two albums as a double CD - especially if you missed them first time around. Don't miss them again!
