Times and SeasonsIan Gibbs, via The Good Book Stall
Not so much a commentary as a manifesto – might describe this book which uses the title of the Church of England’s resource book for the Church’s year (excluding saint’s days) but really pays only lip-service to its contents. We can be in no doubt about Richard Giles’ positions on the theologyof the facts and facts which he very attractively guides the reader through, nor on ‘choreography’, ritual, colour, music and so on. The photographs which help to explain the rites are also impressive. Most worrying are his notions of Holy Order, and his urge to treat the church buildings as though they should be blank pages on which to write radical litugical experiments. If given free reign the damage to our cultural heritage would be horrendous.
