Since its first publication in 1978 The Study of Liturgy has come to be recognized as an indispensable resource for all those involved in the study, the planning or the celebration of the liturgy.

The last two decades have been a period of intense liturgical productivity in the Christian Churches. New and revised rites continue to appear. A developing ecumenical openness among both scholars and ecclesiastical authorities has encouraged many Churches to assimilate features of other traditions into their own worship. There have been important advances in liturgical scholarship.

This thoroughly revised and updated edition of The Study of Liturgy takes full account of recent changes. The bibliographies have been updated, new chapters added, others completely re-written. Paul Bradshaw has assumed the late Cheslyn Jones’ mantle as one of the three editors.

The same ecumenical character is maintained among the authors, who include fifteen Anglicans, six Roman Catholics, three Methodists, and one Orthodox.
