Description

A pleasant story set in an English village. The main characters are three girls: Amy Stewart (10)- a newcomer to the village who becomes friendly with Lisa Ross (10); Sarah Corby (11) is a Christian who lives next door to Amy. Sarah and Amy's mothers' friendship develops and they study the Bible together. A mysterious old character called Albert has a coal-hole which he keeps locked.

Amy and Lisa are determined to find out what is in the coal-hole. By mischievous and devious means they break in and make an important discovery. Sadly shortly after this Albert dies. Amy blames herself for his death and struggles with guilt. Sarah talks to her about Jesus and helps Amy to explain things to her parents. The situation is resolved and Amy finally has the courage to tell Lisa their actions were wrong. The friendship between Sarah and Amy is strengthened which causes Lisa to be jealous. The story ends happily when Sarah's estranged father returns and the family are re-united.
