Set in Chicago in 1893 this period drama seemed to struggle with keeping an authenticity about it. Don’t get me wrong I really enjoyed the story, I found Lucy a pleasant character to follow but I think that the author would have done better to have made her a modern girl. That saying it was really nice to watch her grow as a woman deciding for herself what she wanted out of her life rather than what her family expected. Whilst God doesn’t feature predominantly in the book, the author does portray a sense of God at work in Lucy’s life to get the relationship that was the best for her and for the maid Charlotte to be blessed.
