The Historical JesusJohn Irvine, via The Good Book Stall
Contributors, James D.G.Dunn, John Dominic Crossan, Darell L.Bock, Luke Timothy Johnson, and Robert M.Price
Who was the Jesus of history? The five contributors to this book set out their views on the subject. They vary greatly in their conclusions, one even arguing that it is improbable that Jesus ever existed at all. The studies of Jesus by scholars and theologians throughout history are examined, Jesus as the revolutionary moral teacher, as the exorcist, as the failed apocalyptic prophet and so on, mostly coming from academic conspiracy theorists or eccentric scholars. The present contributors look at the Jesus of history and the Christ of faith presented in the Gospels. These are detailed scholarly studies, complex and intellectually demanding, but worth the perseverance. Many, however, will conclude that the quest for the historical Jesus has no real bearing on the reality and sincerity of one’s Christian belief.
