The Color of RainChloe Lynch, via The Good Book Stall
If you pick up The Color of Rain by Michael and Gina Spehn, then be prepared to cry! This account of two families’ losses is achingly sad and neither Michael nor Gina, each of whom writes alternate chapters, holds back as each tells their story of the death of their spouse. Never have I read a book which so vividly recounts the pain of a loved one’s death, the searing grief which follows and the challenges of helping children to come to terms with the death of a parent.
And yet, this is not all. The Color of Rain is the story of the triumph of life through death, hope through despair and healing through grief. As Michael and Gina begin to develop a friendship, each understanding the depth of the other’s loss, a ray of light appears through the rain of their tragedy and they start to see that even rain can have a colour when lit by the sun. A book of hope, this testimony of the grace and the goodness of God even through the rain is a must-read.
