Test, Train, Affirm & Send into MinistryAlan Hill, via The Good Book Stall
This latest book in Day One’s Ministering the Master’s way series looks at the part the local church should play in calling men into the ministry. It is an interesting read on a neglected subject.
The foreword contains some of the most important material on this subject. It reminds us that there must first be an inward call of God; a man must be so constrained by God to preach that he has no other choice. Second there must be an outward recognition of that calling. It is the responsibility of the local church: to “call out the called”.
The book then asks “who should receive the external call?” The answer given is a man who has an internal call and who meets the qualifications for ministry laid down in 1 Timothy 3: 1 to 7. The following chapters look at how the local church should carry out this important responsibility.
There is much that is helpful, with most of the content based on the author’s own experience. The book is easy to read and has a clear structure.
Like the others in the series this is a brief book. This means that the book is accessible and understandable to Christians of all levels of maturity. I would especially recommend its use in a church that is, for the first time, considering whether the Lord is setting a man apart for the ministry.
