Description
Variously described as ‘gripping’ and ‘inspiring’ this is a dramatic tale of pain and healing. Mark Edwards was a young boy who came close to ending his life after being abandoned by his parents and spending most of his early childhood in foster homes. The story tells of Mark’s journey into adolescence, the rebellion and escapades in the children’s home, his attempts to cut his wrists and how he contemplated hurling himself under a train. His feelings of rejection led to an emotional breakdown, which resulted in psychiatric care. The faith and love shown by an elderly pastor set Mark on the road to recovery; the reader sees the remarkable transformation from psychiatric patient to father, husband and priest.
This is a book with great potential for ministering to people with disturbed backgrounds, those with a children's home background and those trying to lose unwanted memories

I couldn't put this book down, it was inspirational and heartrending
Another story of a youngster put into institutional care for a reason far beyond their control. Heartrending as it tells of the emotional rollercoaster of his growing up, his adolescence and his difficult and painful transition into adulthood. Mark story is inspirational. He tells how met and married Lesley, had children and was ordained into the Church of England. Those few words only touch on the story told here. I read it at just over one sitting – I fell asleep and had to finish it in the morning. As Cliff Richard says, ‘an amazing and powerful story’. ( His comments on the front cover of the book )
Essential reading for social workers and those in allied professions
" This emotional and gripping book has something to say to most of us. To Professionals: please give children what they need, namely love, permanence and security. To Parents and careers: listen to your children and give them of yourselves. And to children: Remember however the adults treat you, you are lovable and capable"
Clearly an important story, emotional and revealing.
This book is the moving and powerful story of Mark's life as an abused child and his painful experiences in later life he deals with the aftermath of his childhood. Abandoned by his parents, he spent his early days in foster homes and eventually a children's home. During his teenage years Mark struggled with rebellion and desires to end his life. Even as an adult the pain still haunts him: 'It was the same story repeating itself. People I loved were always being taken from me, or I was taken from them.'Having met those in similar situations to Mark, I found his story to be compelling, the voice of the little boy is clearly heard as he cries out for someone to help him. This book should prove invaluable in understanding such hurting and vulnerable folk in our world.
Lovely book to read
I thought this book was one of the best I had read for a long time, I am Mark's sister and think he has told about his time in care truthfully and only others in care know how it was. He has not left anything out and his life with Lesley was testing at times but read this book and find out how he made a good life for his family.
