Taming the WindBarry Vendy, via The Good Book Stall
If it's romance you enjoy, you will find plenty of it in award-winning author Tracie Peterson's new book, involving two emotionally wounded characters, a young widowed mother and a cowboy, who in fact had once saved her life. For suspense, there's a kidnapping and gripping chase. For sheer drama, there's a long distance cattle drove. It makes for an absorbing novel, which certainly reveals the "passion for history and flair for adventure" that are said to "resonate" in Tracie's work. The story is set in 1868, and Tracie does a good job of describing the lingering resentments left by the recent Civil War and what seem to be some unfair laws. Then there are tensions with those native tribes that were resisting the pressure to settle on official reservations. So a number of issues arise as the story proceeds. But at the heart of it all is the Christian faith of its main characters, and their prayers for God's guidance and protection. I felt that the author was expressing her own Christian values most clearly in the description of a wedding in Chapter 28 (pages 315 to 317).
