Swami AbishiktanandaIan Gibbs, via The Good Book Stall
This collection raises as many questions as it answers about this enigmatic man. A French Benedictine succeeds in settling in India in 1948; but why? Why India and Hinduism? Why not Japan and Buddhism, China and Taoism, or some other oriental location and ‘Eastern’ religion? Moreover the Swami does not seem to have truly settled. St Benedict might have classified him as a Gyrovague – a wandering monk. It is also not clear whether in his writings there is a striving for Christian truths via the medium of Hindu thought, or even vice versa. All is most perplexing.
