Simple WaysAlison Morgan, via The Good Book Stall
Gunilla Norris is a writer, meditation teacher, and psychotherapist, and the author of a number of books on prayer and meditation. She lives in Connecticut. Her passion is to write about spirituality in the every day – she believes that we long for something more transcendent than the ordinary, and often therefore miss that which is numinous and extraordinary right under our noses. This little book offers a series of themed meditations under the headings ‘With our bodies’, ‘In our dwellings’, With our everyday things’ and ‘In our gratitude.’ Each takes the form of a two page meditation, followed by a poem for reflection. They are written in a simple, accessible, odd-moment sort of style. Often the reader is arrested by a sentence which demands further thought – as ‘with every inhalation we are given life. With every exhalation we must surrender life, for another breath to be given to us.’ The book probably won’t fill you with exciting new ideas, or lead you into radically new places – it’s more the sort of thing you take on holiday, or slow yourself down with, or follow for a season. I enjoyed it.
