The Jesus Storybook Bible - Penny, I enjoy well written, informative books, especially Christian books
This is a beautiful re-telling of important events in the Bible, which gives an intelligent and Biblically accurate overview. It highlights the hope of a Saviour in the Old Testament, and His fulfillment in the New Testament. As it says in the title 'Every story whispers his (Jesus') name'. This book does what it sets out to do and is suitable for children and adults alike.
I wish everyone could have a copy! - Jo, a methodist, in Huddersfield
The Jesus storybook bible has both depth and simplicity. The storytelling is fresh, the artwork is stunning. The combination is deeply moving. My children (8 and 4) love it, and I don't get tired of reading it. As a theological educator myself I find there are insights here for all ages and stages. It's worth getting the deluxe edition - David Suchet reads all 44 stories beutifully, with passion and humour. I have used these in services for all ages and even just for adults. I've given it five stars because it is simply so far ahead of other children's resources - it is not patronising, simplistic or 'twee' like so many other children's bibles and christian books. There are only a few tiny things that could improve it - The author, Sally Lloyd-Jones, is English, but lives in the USA, and there are just a couple of americanisms (e.g. Jesus' words to Jairus's daughter - Honey, it's time to get up) but these are so few that I can live with it. On a practical level, the CDs slot into a cardboard wallet which isn't particularly protective, and ours have got scratched through letting the children use them. I wish I had found a proper CD case for them, and / or made copies for the children to use. But all in all this is such a wonderful resource. I know this is never likely to happen, but I wish the artwork was available in powerpoint format as it would be wonderful to be able to share the images in services when using the stories.
